Arrive in Florence
This morning, the Group Leader and Tour Manager depart for the Rome Airport to meet the group.
Upon arrival your escort will warmly greet you this morning and welcome you to Italy.
Transfer to your hotel in Florence and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.
This evening, meet for a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant (3 course set menu including 1 glass of wine, 1 small bottle of water and coffee/tea per person).
Day in Lari
After breakfast, head to Lari, a lesser-known Tuscan town located within castle walls. Its biggest draw is Europe’s smallest pasta factory, situated in its center. It is so tiny, in fact, that if you blink you might miss it. Though mini, the Famiglia Martelli has been proudly making their pasta there since 1926. The Martellis warmly welcome visitors for a tour.
The walk-through gives insight into the art of making pasta, the original way. The process is a long one, as the semolina pasta is still made by hand and hung to dry. At the end of the tour it is possible to taste the difference in their artisanal approach to one of Italy’s staple ingredients.
Next, stop at a local restaurant and enjoy a Pasta Lunch (2-course set lunch).
Enjoy the afternoon at leisure in Florence to explore on your own.
Day in Florence
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then meet your guide and depart for your morning walking tour of Florence and see some of the most important sites of the old town: The Duomo Complex is considered one of the best examples of architecture to be admired in the world; the Palazzo Vecchio incorporates in its facade some of the most distinctive elements of Renaissance buildings; the Ponte Vecchio and its famous jewelry shops.
Continue on to the Galleria dell’Accademia Museum for a guided tour and view the masterpiece that is the Statue of David.
Next, visit the Uffizi Gallery, commissioned in 1580 by Cosimo de’ Medici I, which originally housed government offices. Today, the building is one of the most famous musuems in the world. With works by revered artists like Giotto, da Vinci, Michelangelo, Titian and Caravaggio, Rembrandt, and Rubens, vistors can be swept away by the sheer beauty displayed in its three wings.
Day in Pienza & Montepulciano
After breakfast board your coach with your guide for a tour to the nearby town of Pienza. The area is noted not only for its architecture, but for its regional specialities. With award-winning Pecorino producers, today’s tasting will be a treat. Neighbouring Montepulciano offers one of the most sought-after wines: the Vino Nobile.
Continue to Montepulciano and stop in Montalcino along the way for a rest stop. Medieval Montepulciano and its “vino nobile” is ensconced in the reveries that slowly give way to the surrounding Tuscan countryside over which it reigns supreme.
Rising above the undulating hills and the other glorious vineal varieties the region proffers, the wine made on the tuff mountain has always been regarded as a drink destined for nobles. Just below the city’s soil lie a series of wine cellars with cathedral-like vaulted ceilings chisled into the rock over centuries.
Descend into the cool, semidarkness while the scents of wood, earth, and fruit envelope you during your visit to the historic heart of what lends this unique place its heritage.
Full Day Chianti Wine Tour
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then depart for your full day wine tour. With its iconic round bottle, Chianti is more than a fabulous wine, it is in itself a marvelous region within Tuscany.
With its iconic round bottle, Chianti is more than a fabulous wine, it is a marvelous Tuscan region. We will enjoy the winding, country roads lined with cypresses passing by the vineyards in the rolling hills, and stop for a tasting at a wine cellar to try the Vin Santo, a dessert wine paired with delicious cantucci cookies. Enjoy a light lunch with a wine tasting.
Day in San Gimignano & Siena
After breakfast, depart with your guide to discover the beauties of Siena and San Gimignano. The journey begins in San Gimignano, famed for its medieval skyscrapers, high walls and narrow streets that typify most people’s image of a Tuscan hill town. San Gimignano is unique in the preservation of about a dozen of its tower houses, which, with its hilltop setting and encircling walls, form an unforgettable skyline.
In Siena, you will enjoy a guided walking tour of this compact city that will let you discover also Piazza del Campo, the main central square where the famous Palio horse race takes place every year, as well as exploring quieter backstreets and learning everything about the Contrade, the 17 medieval city districts that compete against each other in the Palio. Head to a local restaurant and enjoy a delicious Farewell Dinner (3 course set menu). After, return to your hotel.
