Although the U.S. wine market has existed for more than two centuries, it is only in the 50 years that the U.S. has established itself as a world-class producer of wine. The famous Judgement in Paris in 1976, immortalized on the silver screen with the movie ‘Bottleshock’, is the embodiment of the sheer willpower and resolve to succeed and then conquer. This determination has led to world-wide respect for U.S. wine.
From the northerly climate of Washington state and the Columbia river valley to the desert climate of Arizona, this country’s diverse conditions and resulting wine selection is as varied as any country on earth could boast.
While every state produces wine of varying quality and quantity, California produces over 85% of wine made in the U.S. This golden state with its Napa and Sonoma valley’s, as well as many other incredible regions has been a champion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the United States and the world. Household names like Robert Mondavi created the dream and vision and placed his emphatic mark on this country’s wine future. Likewise, other great regions of California and other states in the western U.S. have created their mark with fantastic wines made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
In the East coast we learn of the Five fingers lake region and their offerings. The elegance of their wine, with its own idiosyncrasies, can be mystifying but on this course all is revealed in a manner that is as educational as it is enticing.
From the land of the humble two buck chuck to the royalty of the Napa valley reds, this country has everything for everyone. We invite you to join us in learning about the country where styles abound, and the wines are as big and as exciting as the country itself.
